Air Conditioning Installation in Cardiff and South Wales

Welsh summers are getting harder to sleep through, and a lot of the buildings around here were never designed to cope with heat. CS Boxall install air conditioning for homes and small commercial premises across Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and the wider South Wales area, from a single wall unit in a bedroom or home office through to multi-room systems for shops, salons, offices and holiday lets.

We have been fitting heating and plumbing systems in South Wales for over 40 years, and air conditioning is a natural extension of that work. The same engineers who install your boiler understand your pipework, your electrics and the fabric of your building, which matters more than most people expect when it comes to siting a unit properly and running the pipe route without wrecking your plasterwork.

Every installation starts with a site visit rather than a phone quote. We look at the size and orientation of the rooms you want cooled, how much glazing you have, where the outdoor unit can reasonably sit, and how the pipe and condensate runs will get there. Undersized units run constantly and never quite get there. Oversized units short-cycle, waste electricity and leave the room clammy. Getting the sizing right at survey stage is the difference between a system you forget about and one you regret.

Domestic Air Conditioning Installation

Most homes we work in end up with a wall-mounted split system: one discreet indoor unit, one outdoor condenser, connected by insulated refrigerant pipework. It is the quietest and most cost-effective option for a single room.

Where you want more than one room covered, a multi-split system runs several indoor units from one outdoor condenser, which keeps the outside of the property tidier and usually works out cheaper than separate systems. For new builds, extensions and loft conversions where we can get above the ceiling, ducted systems hide almost everything out of sight with just a slim grille visible in the room.

The rooms people ask us about most often are south-facing bedrooms, home offices, loft conversions that turn into ovens by mid-afternoon, and conservatories and garden rooms that are unusable for half the year. Air conditioning also works in reverse, so the same unit heats the room in winter, often for less than running an electric heater or firing up the whole central heating system for one space.

Light Commercial Air Conditioning Installation

We install and maintain air conditioning for smaller commercial premises across South Wales: shops, offices, cafes and restaurants, hair and beauty salons, dental and veterinary practices, gyms, server and comms rooms, care homes, and self-catering and holiday accommodation. It sits alongside the rest of our commercial services.

Commercial work brings a few extra considerations. Staff and customer comfort has a direct effect on trade and on how long people stay. Equipment rooms need reliable cooling year round, not just in August. And systems above a certain refrigerant charge carry mandatory leak checking and record keeping obligations under the F Gas Regulations, which we handle for you as part of an ongoing maintenance agreement.

We work around your opening hours wherever we can, including evenings and weekends, so the install does not cost you a trading day.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to install air conditioning?

A single wall-mounted unit in one room typically costs somewhere between £1,800 and £3,000 fitted, depending on the size of the unit, the pipe run and how straightforward the outdoor unit position is. Multi-room and commercial systems are priced individually. Contact CS Boxall for a fixed quote after a site survey.

How long does an air conditioning installation take?

A single split system is usually a one-day job. Multi-split systems and larger commercial installations generally take two to three days. We will confirm the timescale at survey stage before any work is booked.

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Wales?

For most houses, a single outdoor unit falls under permitted development, provided it meets the size and siting conditions. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats are treated differently, and commercial premises have their own rules. We flag anything that needs a planning application during the survey.

Can air conditioning heat my house as well as cool it?

Yes. Modern units are reversible air-to-air heat pumps, so they provide heating in winter as well as cooling in summer. For a single room they are often cheaper to run than an electric heater, and cheaper than heating the whole house to warm one space.

Is air conditioning expensive to run?

A typical domestic unit draws roughly the same power as a fridge or a small fan heater when it is up to temperature. Running costs depend on how well the room retains heat, the temperature you set and your electricity tariff. Correctly sized units cost noticeably less to run than oversized ones.

Does air conditioning need servicing?

Yes. An annual service keeps the system efficient, protects the warranty and stops filter and drainage problems turning into breakdowns. Commercial systems above a certain refrigerant charge also require scheduled leak checks by law. We offer maintenance agreements for both.

Excellent company, I always have them for the annual boiler service which is very reasonable but more importantly they always assist with a problem. No hot water or heating last night, I left a voicemail and the engineer called at 8.15am and arrived at 10am, fault found and fixed. A big thanks to Alan for this and the office staff for sorting, would highly recommend CS Boxall

I just want to pass on my thanks and appreciation for the work that you have recently provided help to get our boiler / heating back up and running in the hospice.

I'm sure that you're very busy but i really value how responsive you've been to help us.

We're really grateful to be working with you and I'm sure it's the start of a successful partnership.

Jason

I would like to say a huge thank you to the lady who took my call yesterday and managed to get someone to us in minutes. To say yesterday was stress would be an understatement. The plumber that arrived was so calm and collected and I just wanted to thank the company so much and apologise for my highly emotional state. No one ever expects to open their front door and be faced with that and especially so close to Christmas... on the day you are due to exchange on the house!

Thanks again and we will be recommending you to everyone!!!

Beca Griffiths

Can I please also pay a compliment to David for his outstanding work yesterday and thank you all for getting the heating working much sooner than I'd anticipated.

Jon Taylor

I wanted to say once again how helpful the two men were. They answered all my questions and were just very considerate.

I have been so pleased with your company and would highly recommend you.

Clare Hockings

I would like to thank you for the installation job last Thursday. Your men did a great job. Mine is not an easy property to work on or in and they were efficient and professional and very prompt in their timing of the work in spite of all.

They also did go above and beyond with details and did not treat me like a lamebrain civilian which made a change.
